- Course objectives
- The course goal is to extend the knowledge in the field of karst geology, hydrogeology, and geochemistry krasu obtained in the Karsology I course. aditional informations will be acquired in the scope of karst paleotologie and archeology. The course is aimed to the students of master programs.
- Syllabus
- Karst geology: genesis and evolution of karst, endogenous and exogenous factors. Karst hydrology: principle of karst water flow, unsaturated zone, saturated zone, spring outflow lines, spreading of contaminants. Karst processes: closed and open systems in karst, equilibrium and kinetics of karst processes, recent processes (models, mechanisms): (1) the role of atmosphere (outer and soil atmosphere, cave atmosphere), (2) the role of karst waters (precipitation, vertically and horizontally flowing waters), (3) anthropogenic impact. Paleo-processes (models, mechanisms). Karst zoo-phyto-paleontology and archeology: differences between karst and non-karst localities, principles of biological material accumulation, time-range of paleontological findings, main paleontological sites, community analyses and single taxons.
