Course objectives
The main objective of this course is to practically study with use of anatomical preparates and visually fix the knowledge learned by the students within the course Anatomy for anthropologists I.; Human anatomy in the scope of Faculty of Medicine. The classes are given at the Department of Anthropology, partly in the facilities of the Faculty of Medicine (with kind permission of the Head of the Department of Anatomy Prof. RNDr. Petr Dubový, CSc.). At the end of this course the students will have complete knowledge of the anatomy of human locomotor system, both its passive and active components; the students will understand and will be able to explain the anatomical structure and function of the skeletal system and muscular apparatus of the human body and use this knowledge in anthropological studies and research; such proficiency is essential for a study in any area of the knowledge of man;

  • The plains and directions on the human body, main body parts, general osteology
  • The skeleton of the torso
  • The skeleton of the upper limb
  • The skeleton of the lower limb
  • The neurocranium
  • The splanchnocranium, sexual dimorphism of the skull, the skull of the newborn
  • General arthrology, the junctions on the skull, the spine, the chest
  • The junctions of bones on the upper limb
  • The junctions of bones on the lower limb
  • General myology, muscles on the head and neck
  • The muscles of the torso
  • The muscles of the upper limb
  • The muscles of the lower limb

Assessment methods
The course is completed with credit. The tuition is practical, using anatomical preparations, presence is mandatory, the students come to every class prepared for the content practically studied in that class, according to previous lecture. The preparedness for class is checked via a short test in the beginning of each class; test results are consulted at the end of the course to award credit.
