- Course objectives
- Lichen biology and determination:
The aim is to obtain knowledge about the terrestial lichens, with the main focus on genus Cladonia.
TLC methods used to proof the acids will be also part of the lectures.
Lichen physiology:
To obtain knowledge of physiological processes in lichen thalli, with special regard to stress physiology in extreme conditions. - Learning outcomes
- The students should be able:
- to understand the principles of lichem symbiosis and formation of lichen thallus;
- to determine specimens into the main groups of genus Cladonia following macroscopical and microscopical methods;
- to understand the physiological processes, which enable lichens to survive in unfavourable conditions;
- to explain their application in nature (based on case studies in selected regions). - Syllabus
