- Course objectives
- Students will get acquainted in detail with the most important topics discussed in Biochemistry I course. The main focus of the subject will be the structure, properties and function of the basic components of living systems, thermodynamic calculations, enzymology, and the main metabolic pathways and cycles.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, the students will understand the major topics of Biochemistry I course: they will know the structure, basic features, and molecular functions of the main components of living systems (amino acids, peptides, proteins, and lipids), will be able to perform basic calculations in thermodynamics, and will understand the basics of enzymology, metabolism of sugars and lipids, and principles of citric acid cycle, respiratory chain, and photosynthesis.

- Seminar: Class discussion on the problematics, exercises, calculations.
- Assessment methods
- The participation in the lessons is compulsory, with one absence allowed; additional absences must be excused through the study department. The credit will be obtained in the case of success in interim tests written during the semester (at least 70% of points in total). Retake tests will be based on the complete content of the course (requirement of at least 70% of points).

- Electronic textbook Problems in biochemistry and the presentations containing the formulas and schemes are available in the Study materials (Czech only). The students are advised to bring them to the course in a suitable form (either printed or in tablet), because they contain theory, schemes, exercises, and data required for the seminars.
