- Course objectives
- The lectures are focused on basic isotope systems and their practical application in rock petrogenesis studies.
- Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to: - understand the basic isotopic systems - use isotopic systems in the scientific study of rock petrogenisis.
- Syllabus
- 1) Introduction to geochemistry of endogenic processes
- Lecture: chemical elements, stable isotopes, radiogenic isotopes, Earth as a complex chemical system
- Seminar: basic isotope systems, separation methods of individual elements and their measurement using mass spectrometers TRITON and NEPTUN
- 2) Chemical differentiation of the Earth
- Lecture: isotope geochemistry of mantle and crust
- Seminar: crust–mantle differentiation
- 3) Stable Li isotopes
- Lecture: composition of major crust and mantle reservoirs, geochemical cycle of Li
- Seminar: practical examples of Li isotopes application in rock petrogenesis studies
- 4) Stable B isotopes
- Lecture: composition of major crust and mantle reservoirs, geochemical cycle of B
- Seminar: practical examples of B isotopes application in rock petrogenesis studies
- 5) Radiogenic Sr isotopes
- Lecture: composition of major crust and mantle reservoirs, geochemical cycle of Sr
- Seminar: practical examples of Sr isotopes application in rock petrogenesis studies.
- 6) Radiogenic Nd isotopes
- Lecture: composition of major crust and mantle reservoirs, geochemical cycle of Nd
