- Course objectives
- The seminar is providing an alternative for widely spread MS Windows environment. Students are led to the deeper knowledge of the programs that they are working with and to their own application creation. Knowledge obtained in this seminar are neccessary groundwork for computational chemistry and molecular modelling. The part concerning Internet shows relationships within the world computer network and the possibilities of its reasonable usage (contents providing, targetted search).
- Syllabus
- 1. History of the operation system UNIX, comparison with other OS, advantages and disadvantages. Making accounts on the server. Rules for academic computer network usage. 2. Basic UNIX commands for work with files, help usage, other commands for work under UNIX system. Permissions and their configuration. 3. VI editor - running, working modes, movement within the file, text insert, regular experssions for work with text. 4. Programming in shell - variables, position parameters, some constructions (if, for). Shell-script. 5. Electronic communication - e-mail, telnet, ftp, ssh. 6. HTML language, principle, marks. HTML page creation with help of VI editor. Putting the page on faculty server. 7. Graphicsl interface X-windows, Window managers. Configuration of terminal, window manager and environment. 8. Graphic aplications for X-windows - table processor, graph maker, document viewers, chemical structure viewer. 9. Chemical resources on Net - structure databases, literature sources, targetted search.

- 2h cvičení v počítačové učebně - část je věnována přednášce a část praktickému zkoušení práce s UNIXem a individuálním konzultacím. Během semestru student tvoří HTML stránku, která je součástí závěrečného kolokvia.
