- The course is intended for Bachelor students of Cellular and Molecular Diagnostics. Prerequisite: exams in Chemistry Basics, and Microscopical Techniques.

- Course objectives
- Structure and function of microbial cell. Effect of environmental factors on microbial cells. Cell cycle and growth of microorganisms. Microbial metabolism and its regulation. Basics of microbial genetics. Mutations. Recombinations. Plasmids. Soil and water as microbial habitats. Relationships between microorganisms. Microbial diseases. Introduction in general virology. Virion structure. Reproduction of animal, plant and microbial viruses. Virus diseases. Practical exercises: 1.Safety in the microbiological laboratory. 2.Cultivation media and their preparation. 3. Aseptic techniques, inoculation and maintenance of microorganisms. 4.Microscopy of bacteria, Gram staining. 5.Determination of the number of bacterial cells by plate technique. 6.Bacteria in water. 7.Identification of bacteria - introduction. 8. Determination of biologically active substances, sensitivity to antibiotics. 9.Titration of bacteriophage. 10.Microorganisms in soil. 11.Microscopy of the soil microorganisms. Inoculation of micromycetes. 12. Morphology of micromycetes. 13.Yeasts, test of vitality.
