- Course objectives
- Principles of zoological systematics. The major invertebrate taxa: phylogenesis, morphology and life history. Morphology, ontogenesis, life history and system of Chordata. Classification, comparative morphology and phylogenesis of vertebrates with focus on extant groups.
- Syllabus
- Principles of zoological systematics - alternative concepts, basics of phylogenetic systematics. Archezoa, Protozoa (independent regnae): brief overview of the major groups. Animalia (Metazoa) - phylogenesis and characteristics of major taxa on the Phylum level and selected taxa of subordinate levels: Porifera; Cnidaria; Ctenophora; Platyhelminthes; Nemathelminthes: Rotifera, Acanthocephala, Gastrotricha, Cephalorhyncha, Nematoda, Nematomorpha; Mollusca; Sipunculida; Echiurida, Annelida; Nemertea; Tardigrada; Onychophora; (Eu)Arthropoda: Chelicerata, Crustacea, Tracheata: Myriapoda, Hexapoda; Entoprocta=Kamptozoa; Bryozoa; Brachiopoda; Echinodermata. Phylum Chordata, characteristics, origin and evolution. Subphylum Tunicata, subphylum Acrania - basic characteristics and morphology. Subphylum Vertebrata - characteristics and system. Supraclass Agnatha - charakteristics, living Cyclostomata. Suprafamily Gnathostomata - characteristics; primarily aquatic Gnathostomata, Chondrichthyes, Pisces - morphology, ecology and system. Amphibians, reptiles - morphology, ecology, system, adaptations to terrestrial life. Birds - morphology and system, adaptations to flight. Mammals - morphology, ecology and system.
