- Course objectives
- Main groups of microorganisms - viruses, bacteria (including cyanobacteria), archaea and fungi. Structure and function of virus particle. Organization and function of procaryotic cell. Eucaryotic microorganisms. Microbial growth. Nutritional requirements of microorganisms. Energetic metabolism of chemoorganotrophs, chemolithotrophs and photosynthetic microorganisms. Genetics and molecular biology of microorganisms. Microbial communities. Microorganisms in environment. Exploitation of microorganisms in industry. Main taxonomic groups of bacteria, archea and fungi. Microbial diseases and their control. At the end this course, students should be able to: - understand and be able to explain dissimilarity between procaryotic and eeucaryoti microorganisms - comprehend relationship among microorganisms - elucidate relation amongst microorganisms and environment - sustain portion of microorganisms in changes environment - use microorganisms in biotechnology
