- Main objective is extending of basic knowledge in the field of karst geochemistry; especially in the field of
- carbonate equilibrium
- dynamics of carbonate systems
- reaction path in karst systems
- karst evolution
- influence of inner/outer conditions
- possibility of paleolo-climatic reconstructions
The course is aimed to the students of master programs. - Syllabus
- Introduction:
- Geochemistry of the CO2-H2O-limestone system
- major components, minor components, carbon and oxygen isotopes.
- Carbonate system:
- equilibriums, kinetics of elementary processes.
- Dynamics of calcite dissolution and growth:
- PWP model, surface-complexation model.
- Reaction paths:
- Models in system Ca-pH, interfacial boundary influence, Mg-, Sr-tracers.
- Conception models of karst processes:
- Cave evolution, speleothem formation.
- Outer and inner influences:
- Karst soils and vegetation, cave micro-climatology, anthropogenic impact
- Paleo-climatic reconstructions:
- principles, problems, dating.
