- Course objectives
- The course provides information on elementary geological principles and laws. Main evolutionary events and palaeographic and palaeoclimatic changes during Precambrian, Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic will be explained.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- summarise possible causes and consequences of climatic and palaeogeographic changes and mass extinctions;
- summarise main phases of global ecosystems development;
- describe development of climate in Phanerozoic;
- describe palaeogeographic development of the Earth; - Syllabus
- Basic geological principles and laws, stratigraphic uinits, main types of sedimentary environments. Praecambrian - division, evolution of earth crust, origin and evolution of life, regional distribution of Praecamrian rocks, orogenies. Lower Paleozoic - division, paleogeographic development, evolution of life, regional distribution of Lower Paleozoic rocks, orogenies. Upper Paleozoic - division, paleogeographic development, evolution of life, regional distribution of Lower Paleozoic rocks, orogenies. Mesozoic - division and characterization, paleogeographic and paleobiogeographic development, orogenies, evolution of life, regional occurrences. Cenozoic - division and characterization, paleogeographic and paleobiogeographic development, orogenies, evolution of life, regional occurrences.
