The course is prepared for students of master degree study of psychology and psychotherapy and is finished by examination. Lecture will present to students basic foundations of psychiatric diagnostics, biological corelates of mental disorders and contemporary possibilities of treatment of mental disorders. The course is built not only on the theoretical and contextual knowledge of diagnostic categories, but also on skills needed in clinical practice. - Course objectives
- After succesful graduation or the course PST 404 Psychotherapy in clinical practice a student will be able to:
orientate him/herself in a basic overview of history and development of psychiatry; know models of mental deseases and basis of diagnostic systems in psychiatr; use information about diagnostic systems for orientation in clinical cases; know basic overview of psychopharmacology and other treatment methods in psychiatry; on basis of acquired knowledge he/she will be able to analyse and describe one clinical case including diferential diagnostic considerations and treatment sugestions; - Syllabus

- 2. models of mental disorders
- 3. diagnostic systems and their application in practice
- 4. psychopharmakotherapy
- 5. selected diagnostic categories - diagnostics, psychodynamics, biologicl corelates, treatment (Schizophrenia and psychotic symptoms. Mood disorders. Organic mental disorders.

- theoretical lecture with class diskussion; description and analysis of case studies;
- Assessment methods
- Examination is in the written form of evalution of the final seminar paper. Requirements for the final seminar paper: Clinical case study of a person with mental disorder with description of the kontext (family an social situation, relationships, somatic deseases etc.), actual difficulties and their history, diagnostic and treatment considerations, literar references.
