Cíle předmětu
Goals 1.Students understand why communication on environmental issues is more complicated than in most other policy matters 2.Students are capable of making a clear distinction between different levels of communication (macro, medium level, micro) 3.Students know basic helpful models to systematise the complexity of environmental communication in their future work and life situation 4.Students are capable of formulating and analysing communication processes on the level of their work and life interest (macro - policy, medium - education, micro - implementation) Times Every two weeks, Monday, 10:00 - 14:00 hours. First date: 29 September 2003 Students are expected to attend all blocks, as communication is not something can be learned from books, but only by interaction. The methods used will be highly interactive and participative. The seminar blocks will not exist of lectures, but of interactive group work. The complete seminar will take place in English. The course will be examined orally on the basis of the work done during the blocks and background literature. 29 September Introduction and basis -Introduction in the way this seminar will be run -Expectations -Basics of communication psychology 13 October Communication on the environment -characteristics of environmental messages -influence of environmental messages on sender, media and receiver -communication streams -communication and knowledge, attitude and behaviour 27 October Communication for the environment -Stakeholders and levels of communication -Communication as process -Communication and decision processes -Communication situations (EIA, SEA, hearings) -Theory behind communication processes -Role of power -Intermezzo: inter-cultural communication 10 November Facilitation of environmental communication processes -Introduction into facilitation -PR, advertisement, manipulation, propaganda, organisation development, moderation, mediation and facilitation -Different facilitation techniques -Group processes and group dynamics -Facilitation skills 24 November Development of environmental communication processes -Hands-on analysis and planning of a communication process

Ir. Jan Haverkamp studied biochemistry and nuclear physics at the University of Leiden, and environmental sciences, social and environmental psychology and communication psychology at Wageningen University in the Netherlands. He worked 10 years in the development of environmental NGOs in Eastern Germany, Czecho-Slovakia, Romania, Ukraine, Albania and Croatia before he emigrated to the Czech Republic. He is founder of the ZHABA facilitators collective. Currently he combines the work as free-lance facilitator with being campaign director in the Czech Republic for Greenpeace. He is 43 years old and has an 8 year old daughter in Prague and an 11 year old son in the Netherlands.
