- Course objectives
- The course focuses on the issue of security and defence dimension of the European integration. At the end of the course students should be able to analyze the development of the security and defence dimension of EC/EU, to explain the relationship between the EU and NATO, to evaluate the role of the EU as a global security actor and to describe current trends in the development of defence policy of the EU. Next to it, students will be able to compare the positions of EU member states as well as external actors towards the security and defence policy of the EU, to have an overview about completed as well as ongoing crisis management operations and last but not least, they will be able to discuss the evolving European strategic culture.

- Teaching methods
- The course is mainly composed of lectures, complemented by seminars and a discussion with an expert. Lectures offer basic information, students are supposed to extend them through required and recommened readings. The elaboration of case studies improves heuristic and analytical skills of students, as well as their team work. Oral presentations of the case studies serve to improve students´ presentation skills and their abilities to emphasize important information and omit the less significant in a given time limit.
