Course objectives
The main objectives can be summarized as follows: to be introduced to legal French to learn specific features of the French administrative and legal system to get new knowledge and new communicative competences and oral skills, in particular understanding both written and spoken texts. At the end of the course students will be able to understand texts on specific topics and explain the key concepts in the following areas: Administrative organisation in France. Executive and Legislative Bodies. Parliament and Constitutional Counicl. French constitution. Elections. Basic concepts in law and in civil Law. Judiciary employees. Lexis and grammar of the language for specific purposes They will be able to use this information in discussions on specific topics, to explain and to support their arguments. Using acquired knowledge students will be able to interpret unknown texts.

  • Topics for work with texts and for communicating professional issues relating to the following fields: CV and letter of intent. Administrative organisation in France. Executive and Legislative Bodies. Parliament and Constitutional Counicl. French constitution. Elections. Basic concepts in law and in civil Law. Judiciary employees. Lexis and grammar of the language for specific purposes.

Teaching methods
The instruction will be held in the form of seminars, two teaching units a week. Students will receive teaching materials for self-study in advance. The materials will be analyzed and interpreted during seminars. Acquired skills will be evaluated by means of exercises; an individual exercise in the form of an on-line drill coursebook and interactives exercices. Instruction techniques: analysis of legal texts, reading comprehension, listening comprehension, independent speaking
Assessment methods
Acquisition of key professional and language skills will be verifby means of a written test (questions with controlled answers, questions with open answers, translation, filling in terms and sentences). The minimum success rate is 70%. Prerequisites for a successful completion of the course include active participation in the seminars (80 %).
