- Course objectives
- The purpose of the course is to explain fundamental issues of the international protection of human rights. For this educative and intelectual purpose the example of the 1950 Convention on Human Rights is taken.
- Learning outcomes
- At the and of the course students should understand the European and international system of human rights protection; the students should furthermore be able to interpret some of the provisions of European Convention; the students should also be familiar with basics of the ECHR case-law.

- 1. Nature and purpose of the 1950 European Convention on Human Rights (interpretation) 2. Human Rights and human values 3. Jurisdiction of the contracting parties and human rights 4. Some human rights and their nature (hard-core of human rights) 5. The right not to be tortured 6. The right to personal freedom 7.-8. The right to fair trial 9.-10. The right to privacy and family life 11. Freedom of expression
