- Course objectives
- The main goals of the course are: • expansion of anatomical knowledge of head and neck structures by clinical correlation • deeper understanding of the topographical relationships of individual head and neck systems • understanding the basic neurophysiological and anatomical consequences of nerve pathways
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to: -orient yourself in detail in the clinical anatomy of the head and neck - understand the basic neurophysiological aspects of neural pathways - describe the involvement of individual neurons in a specific nerve pathway
- Syllabus
- 1. Maxilla, mandible - extended description; Maxillary joint 2. Masticatory muscles; Craniometry with a focus on orthodontics; Head and neck imaging 3. Functional structure of the skull; Fractures of the skull base; Clinical anatomy of the cranial fossae 4. Anatomical basis for the spread of odontogenic infections; Anatomical basis for anaesthesia in dentistry 5. Clinical anatomy of the cranial nerves; 6. Clinical anatomy of head and neck vessels; lymphatic drainage 7. Barriers of the nervous system. Plasticity and regeneration of the NS. Visual pathways and auditory pathways. Vestibular, olfactory and gustatory pathways. 8. Physiology of the senses. 9. Somatosensory and viscerosensory; pain pathways and stress analgesia connections. 10. Somatosensitivity, viscerosensitivity, proprioception and pain - functions. 11. Somatomotor system pathways, cerebellar and basal ganglia connections. Spinal reflex motor control. Eye movements. 12. Motor and function of the basal ganglia. 13. Arrangement and function of the autonomic nervous system. 14. Autonomic nervous system - local and systemic regulation.

- The final evaluation will take the form of an online test. The test will consist of 20 questions, at least 12 correct answers are needed to successfully complete the course.
