- Course objectives
- At the end of the course student will recognize selected drug classes and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum with the particular attention paid to drugs influencing the lipid and sugar metabolisms and preparation for parenteral nutrition. They will have knowledge of possible nutrition impact on treatment of pathological states.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course student will recognize selected drug classes and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from groups of drugs selected in the curriculum with the particular attention paid to drugs influencing the lipid and sugar metabolisms and preparation for parenteral nutrition. They will have knowledge of possible nutrition impact on treatment of pathological states.
- Syllabus
- LECTURES:
- 1. Pharmacotherapy of hypertension, angina pectoris and heart failure.
- 2. Drugs used in management of homeostasis and the treatment of blood clotting.
- 3. General and local anaesthetics.
- 4. Neurotropic and psychoactive drugs (antipsychotics, antidepressants, anxiolytics, hypnotics-sedatives) - overview, classification, adverse effects.
- 5. Therapy of microbial diseases.
- 6. Basics of phytopharmacology - introduction to pharmacognosis, effective compounds in medicinal plants.

- Teaching methods
- Curriculum offers attendance at lectures read by teacher of pharmacology.
- Assessment methods
- During the studying the students have to prove active knowledge of pharmacology acquired. The students have to pass the exam: final written multiple-choice test. In the Final Exam students are asked to answers to multiple-choice questions. Only 1 correct answer is possible to each question. The test contains 30 questions. One point is granted for each correctly answered question. The summary of the score obtained is evaluated as follows: 100% - 92% = A, 91% - 84% = B, 83% - 76% = C, 75% - 68% = D, 67% - 60% = E, F = failed with the score below 60% of the maximum score.
