- Course objectives
- After completion of the course student: understands the basis of molecular and comparative analyses used in medicine and biomedical research; is able to explain the principle of basic methods and their application; is able to judge their relevance for individualized medicine. Student is also able to possibly apply this knowledge and skills in his/her future scientific research.

- Week 4: (7.10.-11.10.): Human genome, human genome project and postgenomic era
- Week 6 (21.10.-25.10.): Epigenetics in development and disease
- Week 8 (4.11.-8.11.): Principles and examples of molecular and cellular biology technique
- Week 10 (18.11.-22.11.): Molecular biology techniques in diagnostic and therapy
- Week 12 (2.12.-6.12.): Modern approaches in studying macromolecular structures and macromolecular interactions - implication for drug development

- Seminar attendance is controlled. Students continue with following subjects without proof of this semester's knowledge. Biology I-seminar (VSBI0121s) is followed by Biology II-lecture (VSBI0222p) that ends up with a written examination test. The test is based on knowledge of all topics from both semesters (lectures, seminars, practices).
