- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is to define the specifics of care for people with hearing impairment from birth to the end of life. Orient in the possibilities of diagnosing hearing impairments; know how to describe typical variations in speech development in children with hearing impairment; to be able to justify difficulties in reading comprehension in people with prelingual hearing impairment and to know the peculiarities of their written discourse; to orientate in the possibilities of compensation of auditory defects and to list the compensation aids used by people with hearing impairment.

- Outputs expected:
• the student is able to define the specifics of care for people with hearing impairment;
• Focuses on the possibilities of compensating hearing impairments;
• can describe the structure of comprehensive care and the education system;
• is acquainted with individual visual-motor communication systems - Syllabus
- Main themes (syllabus):
- • Branch, aim, methods, interdisciplinary relations, subject of interest in the field of surdopedy.
- • The importance of hearing, ear construction, hearing aetiology, factors affecting the development of the auditory analyzer, classification of auditory defects, hearing assessment methods, screening examinations, personality of an individual with hearing impairment.
- • Ontogenesis of speech, stages of speech development in individuals with hearing impairment, level of speech in terms of content, articulation and grammar, characteristics of voice speech in individuals with hearing impairment.
- • Characteristics and importance of interpersonal communication, communication forms of people with hearing impairment - overview and description, visual motoric communication systems - Czech sign language, signified Czech.
- • Individual hearing protectors, devices for individual speech therapy, compensatory aids and their meaning, cochlear implant, hearing aid methodology and cochlear implant.
- • Pioneers of Deaf Education (16th - 17th centuries), development of institutions, institutes and schools for the hearing impaired, historical development of teaching concepts, Milan congress, care for people with hearing impairment in the Czech lands
