- It is pressupposed the student has succesfully finished the subject CJ2BP_JSy1 (Syntax of the Czech Language I).

- Course objectives
- Contemporary Czech Syntax 2 follows the Contemporary Czech Syntax 1; the analysis of the compound sentence and complex sentence follows the analysis of the sentence. The students shall recognise the types of the compound sentence and complex sentence and write the graphical schemes of them. They should be able to explain relation between sentences in the compound or complex sentence. Classification of the clauses. There are compared various methods of the classification of the compound sentence and complex sentence (Svoboda, Grepl, Karlík and other). Various types of the compound and complex sentence, graphical depiction.
In the end of the course students will be able: - to analyse compound sentence and complex sentence;
- to explain semantic and formal relation in the complex sentence and compound sentence;
- to explain relation of the sentences, complex or compound sentences in the text;
- the students know the types of the clauses. - Syllabus
- 1. Criteria for the differentiation between sentence and compound sentence, sentence and complex sentence.
- 2. Sentences connected in the compound sentence. Connectives (word category, syntactical function, meaning).
- 3. Sentence and clause in complex sentence.
- 4. Relation between main clause and dependent clause, the relation between the proposition of the dependent clause and the meaning of the predicative verb in the main clause. Connective and incorporated proposition of the clause.
- 5. Types of the compound sentence, types of complexe sentence.
- 6. Juxtaposition. Differentiation between juxtaposition and co-ordination. Sub-ordination.
- 7. Co-ordination in the compound sentence. Types of the semantic function of the co-ordination, the connective of the co-ordination.
- 8. Subordination in the complex sentence. Types of the semantic function of the subordination, the connective of the subordination.
- 9. Classification of the clauses. Clauses in the valence position of the predicative verb in the sentence in complex sentence.
- 10. Compound sentence and complex with the most complicated structure.
- 11. Graphical picture of the compound sentence and complex sentence.
- 12. Sentence in the text. Sentence as communicative units.
- Segmentation of the text. Units of the texts. Surface and semantic relations among text units.
- 13. Connectives in the text. Function of the connectives.
- 14. Thematic and rheumatic relations in the texts and functional perspective of the sentence.

Ending: Credit
Ending requirements: written exam in the end of the course; it includes themen of CJ3BP_JSy2 (see syllabus or following adress, too: http://moodlinka.ped.muni.cz/course/view.php?id=801 The test includes 30 elementary questions focused to complex and compound sentence. To be successfull student has to answer 80 % of them correctly. - Language of instruction
