- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course is to develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills at the Intermediate Level. The basic study material is the coursebook New English File Upper-Intermediate supplemented by various additional materials. At the end of the course students should be able to: discuss everyday topics, communicate in everyday situations, read and listen to authentic texts at the Intermediate Level and communicate in the language fluently.
- Syllabus
- The basic study material is the coursebook New English File INTERMEDIATE (Student's book and Workbook), see Literature bellow. The syllabus includes Units 4 - 7, the focus is on speaking and listening activities and development of students' vocabulary.
- 1st lesson: Unit 4A: Education - First conditional and future time clauses + when, until, etc.
- 2nd lesson: Unit 4B: Houses - Second conditional
- 3rd lesson: Unit 4C: Friendship - used to
- 4th lesson: Unit 5A + 5B: Noun formation - quantifiers + articles: a/an, the, no article, connectors: however, according to, on the other hand, also
- 5th lesson: Unit 5C: Work - Gerunds and Infinitives
- 6th lesson: Unit 6A: Shopping - Reported Speech
- 7th lesson: Unit 6B: Cinema - Passive

- lectures, class discussion, pair work, group work, brainstorming, individual assignments
- Assessment methods
- Students have to pass 2 short credit tests (70%) focused on the vocabulary and grammar covered during the term, submit their teaching practice papers and only then can they sit the final oral exam proving their overall grammar and vocabulary knowledge (70%) at the end of the term. Students have to prepare for lessons throughout the whole term and do homework for each lesson, which is the base for their active participation in the seminars. Most of the work is based on students' self-study.
