- Course objectives
- In the compulsorily-optional English for Social Educators, students will consolidate their language skills from secondary school on B1 level, and develop some academic skills in English (specialist oral presentation, academic writing, supporting arguments, discussion, etc.). Students will gradually develop their specialist vocabulary focused on terminology connected to the sphere of education and social spheres. They will also revise grammar on B1 level.

- SC4BK_CJAJ Angličtina pro sociální pedagogy CONSULTATION 1 Course instructions and requirements. E-learning materials (Texts and other materials in: Studijní materiály SC4BK_CJAJ - Učební materiály). Odpovědníky. 1) Introducing oneself – Personal Questionnaire 2) Topic: Education. Tertiary education. – reading text, discussion Text 1 British Educational System 3) Reading Comprehension Sheet (structure, content, tips) 4) Reading skills – self-study HOMEWORK 1 1) Find an interesting English text on the internet focussing on the topic of new ideas/trends/approaches in education and educational systems. Read the text and fill in the reading comprehension sheet (RCS) according to the instructions (key words, summary, my opinion). Don’t forget to add the website link of the original article! It is necessary to submit the RCS to ODEVZDÁVÁRNA by the date given in sylabus! 2) Print out the materials necessary for Consultation 2 CONSULTATION 2 1) Improving educational systems – presenting interesting information based on texts that students found and read (RCS) and discussion 2) Text 2 Studying at a university –reading text, doing follow-up exercises 3) Topic: Writing my own CV. Letter of application. 4) Topic: How to prepare a successful presentation, presentation tips HOMEWORK 2 1) Find a real advertisement (written in English) offering some job or position that may be interesting for you and try to reply to it. Write a letter of application according to the instructions and write your CV (use the Europass form). Advertisements can be found e.g. on: http://ec.europa.eu/eures/home.jsp?lang=en&langChanged=true It is necessary to submit the CV and letter of application to ODEVZDÁVÁRNA by the date given in sylabus! 2) Prepare a presentation introducing yourself, your field of study, your profession + summary of an interesting English article connected to your field of study (find the article on the internet/ in a magazine/ book). Presentation should be about 8-10 minutes long, . It is necessary to submit the draft of your presentation to ODEVZDÁVÁRNA by the date given in sylabus! CONSULTATION 3 1) Text 3 Building Bridges – pre-reading discussion, skimming and scanning the text, follow-up tasks 2) Discussion and exercises concerning the social issues CONSULTATION 4 Final presentations – each student is going to present his presentation introducing himself/herself, his/her field of study, his/her current profession (4-5minutes). Second part of the presentation consists of giving a summary of an interesting text connected to the students’ field of study (4-5minutes). - Activities and tasks developing students' language skills and competencies, class and group discussions, vocabulary practice, presentation and soft skills practice, opinion and information sharing, giving arguments, critical thinking, etc.
- Assessment methods
- CREDIT REQUIREMENTS 1) Attendance and active participation in the consultations - only 1 absence is admitted! 2) Careful preparation for each consultation - submitting homework in due time 3) Oral presentation (8-10 min. long, introducing myself, my field of study, my profession + summary of an article connected to the field of study) 4) Final exam test- 70% passmark. The student who has not completed and submitted continuous tasks during the particular semester or missed more than 1 consultation cannot be credited and cannot be allowed to sit the final exam.

The course is taught annually.
General note: Předmět bude zapsán po udělení zápočtu za Vstupní test CJV_AJA2k, který si student zapíše v podzimním semestru,test na úrovni A2 složí v lednu, a poté absolvuje předmět SC4BK_CJAJ v jarním semestru. Počet míst v kurzu je limitován kapacitou pracoviště.
