Students enrolling on the course are expected to achieve at least a good A2+ level of English or higher (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Course objectives
In the compulsorily-optional English for Social Educators, students will consolidate their language skills from secondary school on B1 level, and develop some academic skills in English (specialist oral presentation, academic writing, supporting arguments, discussion, etc.). Students will gradually develop their specialist vocabulary focused on terminology connected to the field of education and social education/social work. They will also revise grammar on B1 level.

  • CONSULTATION 1
  • 1) Course instructions and requirements. E-learning materials (Texts and other materials in: Studijní materiály SC4BK_CJAJ - Učební materiály). Odpovědníky.
  • 2) Topic 1: Education. Tertiary Education. Czech vs. British System of Education. Vocabulary practice.
  • CONSULTATION 2
  • 1) Topic 2: Interpersonal relationships. Ages and Stages. Building Bridges. 2) How to prepare a successful presentation, presentation tips
  • CONSULTATION 3
  • 1) Topic 3: Current Problems in Czech Schools. 2) Topic 4: Current Issues in the World.
  • CONSULTATION 4
  • Final presentations – each student is going to present his presentation introducing himself/herself, his/her field of study, his/her current profession (4-5minutes). Second part of the presentation consists of giving a summary of an interesting text connected to the students’ field of study (4-5minutes).

Teaching methods
Activities and tasks developing students' language skills and competencies, class and group discussions, vocabulary practice, presentation and soft skills practice, opinion and information sharing, giving arguments, critical thinking, etc.
Assessment methods
REDIT REQUIREMENTS
1) Attendance and active participation in the consultations - 2 absences are admitted
2) Careful preparation for each consultation - submitting homework in due time
3) Oral presentation (8-10 min. long, introducing myself, my field of study, my profession + summary of an article connected to the field of study)
4) Final exam test- 65% passmark.
The student who has not completed and submitted continuous tasks during the particular semester cannot be allowed to sit the final exam.

Information on completion of the course: Pro úspěšné ukončení předmětu jsou předepsány v semestru průběžné kontroly, jejichž výsledky jsou započítávány do závěrečného hodnocení. Jazykový kurz není určen pro začátečníky.
The course is taught annually.
General note: Předmět bude zapsán po udělení zápočtu za Vstupní test CJV_AJA2k, který si student zapíše v podzimním semestru,test na úrovni A2 složí v lednu, a poté absolvuje předmět SC4BK_CJAJ v jarním semestru. Počet míst v kurzu je limitován kapacitou pracoviště.
