- Course objectives
- The course provides a general introduction to the literature for young readers in English, with a special interest in Young Adult Literature. Students are asked to read, discuss and present selected texts, and study recommended sources. In the end of the course, students will understand selected literary genres and issues suitable for young readers. Students are required to find and comment on selected relevant links between YAL and Průřezová témata RVP MŠTV. Students will complete their teaching practice research on school libraries in English.

- 1. Introduction to the course; reading oral literature: folk tales, urban legends, fairy tales traditional and modern, tall tales.Building a school library in English.
- 2. Reading nursery rhymes, modern and contemporary poetry for young readers.
- 3. Intentional literature for children and the rise of YAL. Student presentations: YAL I.
- 4. Reading fantasy fiction. Student presentations: YAL II.
- 5. Reading graphic novels and manga. Student presentations: YAL III.
