Course objectives
The course is focused on the basic knowledge of retail's categories, their mutual relations and contexts, with a focus on resale. Students will use acquired knowledge of material components and elements of the marketing merchant activities, and technology solutions of retail operations in processing of business plan and project of retail store. The aim of course is to support students' ability to define basic concepts of retail management with focus on resale and retail operations.
Knowledge: A comprehensive overview of the basic categories of retail and retail operations.
Skills: Apply the correct category of retail management in the processing of a business plan.
Attitude: To learn the linkup of operations in retail stores.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students should know and be able to:
Define the basic concepts of business with a focus on retail and retail technology.
Syllabus
  • 1) Importance of trade, its classification and functions, basic concepts.
  • 2) Characteristics of the distribution channels of the goods.
  • 3) Retail network and its breakdown.
  • 4) Systematization of retail units.
  • 5) Technology of retail operations.
  • 6) Operational layout of the retail units.
  • 7) Facilities and equipment of stores according to business operations.
  • 8) Basic sales forms of goods, their characteristics, shopping environment and atmosphere.
  • 9) Synchronization of static and dynamic elements of the retail operation.
  • 10) Making shopping environment, design shops.
  • 11) Meaning of prices in the business operations.
  • 12) Services as part of business strategy, their classification and valuation.

Teaching methods
The subject consists of lectures, discussions solving of thematic examples and individually processed project of business firm in the form of a business plan.
Assessment methods
The course ends with an oral exam supplemented by the defence of the prepared project.
