The subject follows the introduction to physical education and the basics of physical activities 1. The content of the subject are physical activities suitable for children and youth in the framework of organized physical activities as well as free time activities supporting health. The consultations are aimed at improving the students' skills, acquiring the necessary knowledge and mastering the basic methodical procedures including safety, hygiene and application requirements with regard to the age, performance, health and social characteristics of children and youth.

Course objectives
The student will acquire basic knowledge and skills necessary for organizing and managing selected physical activities, which can be applied in the field of education and leisure time pedagogy. These activities lead children and youth to develop an appropriate physical regime within a healthy lifestyle. After completing the subject the student is able to apply physical activities to different age groups of children and youth and to take into account their individual specifics of development or their health and social condition.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student will be able to organize physical activities at the appropriate level.
Syllabus
  • 1-3 Principles of safety and hygiene in athletic training, preparing an athletic warm-up. Basic concepts of running, jumping and throwing. Methodological and technical handling of running drills elements. Preparatory exercises and games for developing running speed, endurance, power and dexterity. Technique and methodology of practice of running, jumping and throwing. Basic starting commands and signals, training of individual types of starts. Tools for performance measurement, ways of measuring and recording performance, basic rules of the disciplines discussed. Extending the stack of training exercises and games for individual athletic activities using the athletic tools of the Czech Athletic Union (School athletics project). Athletic competitions for children and youth.
  • 4-6 Basic physical and sports games, their suitability with respect to age and individual assumptions. Competitions in physical and sports games. Basic concepts related to the acquired activities, marking and equipment of game fields, role in the game, simplified rules, basics of cooperation, organization of matches, sports games in educational programs. Safety and hygiene in games, appropriate clothing and shoes. Training and game exercises for ball handling, basic passes, moving with and without a ball, dribbling, shooting, defense. Preparatory sports games and games with modified rules as specified by the equipment and student attributes.
  • 7-8 Basic swimming concepts, principles of hygiene and safety during swimming, training exercises outside of water. Preparatory exercises and games for getting acquainted with water and orientation in water, adapting and breathing into the water. Falling and jumping into the water. Crawling, backstroke and breaststroke, coordination of these swimming styles with breathing. Helping the tired swimmer, rescuing the drowning. Basics of aquaerobics and other non-traditional activities in water.
  • 9-10 Basic concepts of skating, figure skating and ice-hockey. Basic skating training methodology, accident prevention. Basic practical training with a focus on forward stroking, stopping,skating while turning, forward crossovers, backward stroking, turning, jumping, games on the ice.
  • 11-12 Optional non-traditional physical activities: in-line skating, climbing, parkour (optional).
  • 13-14 Summary of the curriculum, verification of acquired knowledge.
