Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain practicaly exercised general ecology topics in accordance with following draft of themes: (1) ecological factors of water medium (event. also climate and ecological factors of aerial medium); (2) ecological factors of the soil medium; ecology of populations (demecology) - (3) density, (4) mortality of selected population; (5) attributes of communities (event. also fundamentals of phytocenology); (6) food relations (food chains, food pyramids, analysis of food spectre).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain practicaly exercised general ecology topics in accordance with following draft of themes: (1) ecological factors of water medium (event. also climate and ecological factors of aerial medium); (2) ecological factors of the soil medium; ecology of populations (demecology) - (3) density, (4) mortality of selected population; (5) attributes of communities (event. also fundamentals of phytocenology); (6) food relations (food chains, food pyramids, analysis of food spectre).
Syllabus
  • 1. Ecological factors of water medium I - running water.
  • 2. Ecological factors of water medium II - stationary fresh water.
  • 3. Climate and ecological factors of aerial medium.
  • 4. Ecological factors of the soil medium - soil analysis.
  • 5. Food relations - food chains, food pyramids: analysis of food spectre of bird predator (analysis of pellets of owls).
  • 6. Comprehensive autecological study of selected plant or animal species.
  • 7. Ecology of populations (demecology) I - methods of assesment of population density on example of small mammal.
  • 8. Ecology of populations (demekology) II - mortality table and mortality curve of selected species of bird (forest song-bird).
  • 9. Attributes of communities I - quantitative attributes: density of species, abundance, production - biomass, dominance) on example of ornithocenosis (e.g. in forest).
  • 10. Attributes of communities II - structural attributes: frekvence, faunistic similarity/identity, diversity on example of ornithocenosis (e.g. in forest).
  • 11. Fundamentals of plant population ecology a phytocenology; problematics of invasive plants.
