Course objectives
Subject Comics theory and creation is about comics as a distinctive art discipline and way of expression. At first, it tries to find boundaries of comics and establish its definition. Later on subject explores unique laws, regularities and specifics of comics. Subject also presents the history of genre and tempts to establish historical border of this art form, if possible. Subject theoreticaly reflects individual phenomena of comic storytelling and then teaches to apply acquired knowledge to real output on paper, firstly through few specific tasks and assignements, then through creation of solid comic work itself. Subjects focuses on theory and history as well as practical creation of real comic artwork.
Learning outcomes
Students will gain knowledge about regularities of comics, its specific rules. They will get to know its basic elements and learn how to use them. Students will get knowledge about history of comics as well, and they will be able to critically evaluate comic artwork according to its form, content and artistic quality. Last but not least students will create their own comic stories. Obtained skills and knowledge could help with creation not only comics but icons, storyboards and so on.
