- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to understand and be able to explain the process of speech therapy intervention with children at early age. Students will gain theoretical knowledge of the development of speech and language skills. They will learn procedures for stimulating the development of speech and language skills. They will acquire basic competencies in the area of communication with clients and interdisciplinary cooperation.
- Learning outcomes
- Orientation in the development of speech and language skills; orientation in the possibilities of interdisciplinary cooperation in speech therapy intervention for children in early and preschool age; ability to discuss the issue of children with identifiable and potentially identifiable risk in speech development; Application of the acquired knowledge to practical cases of children with deficits in the development of speech and language skills.
- Syllabus
- Basic attributes of language and speech.
- Verbal communication, non-verbal communication, current aspects of ontogenesis of speech and language skills.
- Characteristics of language levels (lexical-semantic, morphological-syntactic, phonetic-phonological, pragmatic).
- Early speech therapy intervention – definition, current state of early speech therapy intervention in Czech Republic and abroad.
- A category of children with identifiable and potentially identifiable risk in the development of speech and language abilities.
- Child with delay in the development of speech and language abilities – characteristics, possibilities of intervention.
- A child with speech sound disorder – wheezing, palatolalia. Orofacial clefts – etiology, classification. Interdisciplinary care of children with orofacial clefts at an early age.
