Cíle předmětu
The course 'Grammar A' is designed for the 1st year students as an introductory course summarising and developing the students' knowledge of the English grammar. It focuses on the practice of various grammatical issues at advanced level. Its inseparable part is also theoretical background , i.e. essential linguistic terminology. The course is based on 'A Student's Grammar of the English Language' by Sidney Greenbaum and Randolph Quirk. Students are expected to study the relevant chapters from this book regularly.This term the following chapters will be discussed: A general framework, Verbs and auxiliaries and The Semantics of the verb phrase, i.e. chapters 2,3,4. (Other word classes will be dealt with in Grammar B course in spring.)

Metody hodnocení
Requirements: attendance (at least 80%), active participation, all required homework, 3 achievement tests during the term, Moodle self tests and participation in the Online Dictionary project. If you meet all the requirements, you will take the credit test in January - pass mark 70%. Students are required to work regularly with the Moodlinka course and other study materials, i.e. SGEL by Greenbaum and Quirk, Workbook by S. Chalker and Grammar I (as specified by the teacher in the 1st seminar).

If you fail Grammar A course, you cannot attend the following course (Grammar B) in the spring.
