Course objectives
The course is focused on gaining basic knowledge in the field of literary theory with regards to the matters of children’s and youth literature. After successfully completing the course, the student gains basic knowledge in the field of literary theory necessary for their own reception and interpretation of the youth literature.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, students will be able to:
- identify and characterize literary kinds and genres;
- analyze composition devices of a literary work;
- analyze languages devices of a literary work;
- create an analysis of a literary work based on their theoretical knowledge, practically interpret both prose and poetry;
- define the specifics of children’s and youth literature and make conclusions for their teaching practice.

  • 1. Basic concepts and the literature of the course. 2. Literature, letters, national and world literature. 3. The organization of a literary process. 4. Literary genres. 5. Youth literature, its specifics and genres. 6. Composition devices of literary works. 7. Literary character, narrator; author and recipient. 8. Prosody. 9. Linguistic devices of literary works. 10. Tropes 11. Syntactic devices of literary works. 12. Affective uses of language.

Credit requirements: students write a test which focuses on the basic terminology of literary science and interpretative analyses of selected poetic and fictional texts of the literature for children and young adults.
