- Course objectives
- The course presents geography as a science with it's methods of research, with it's object of study and it's partial disciplines. It focuses on the development of geographical thinking. It deals with the basic features of the Earth as a planet, the geographical consequences of the motions and properties of the Earth. It develops skills related to selected themes and presents topics of planetary geography in teaching. The goals of the course are: A student defines the object of studying geography, understands basic astronomic terms and relations directly influencing events in the landscape, explains the origin and evolution of the universe, Kepler's laws and the apparent movement of the solar system bodies. He can explain the influence of the Moon and other objects of the Solar System on Earth, draws and explains the basic elements of the orientation in Apace and on Earth, the apparent movement of the Sun through the celestial sphere, the course of the solar rays through the atmosphere, the influence of the atmosphere on the observation of the celestial bodies, explains the movement of the Earh and the Moon.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the student will be able to:
- describe the structure of geographical disciplines and their interrelationships,
- to list Czech and international geographic societies, basic sources of geographic data, both for expert analyzes and for use in school practice,
- to select and apply appropriate geographical research methods,
- use basic ICT tools for the work of the geographer;
- ask relevant geographic questions,
escribe and explain the concepts of shape and size of the Earth, the movements of the Earth and their consequences - understand and explain the issue of "time on Earth" - describe and explain the concepts of moon, lunar eclipse and sun, tidal phenomena - determine the location using geographic and astronomical coordinates - Syllabus

- 1. Geography as a science. Object and subject of study of geography. History of Geography. Partial geographical disciplines.
- 2. Geographical societies. Data sources - atlases, magazines, specialized data.
- 3. Use of ICT in teaching geography.
- 4. Basic methods of geographic research.
- 5. Introduction to geographical thinking. 6.The shape and dimensions of the Earth, the movements of the Earth and their consequences. 7.Time on Earth. 8.Moon, lunar and solar eclipses, tidal phenomena. 9.Geographic and astronomical coordinates.
