- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the basic principles and concepts in the theory and practice of translation. Problematic areas of particular texts for hours and discuss thoroughly solved through discussion.
- Learning outcomes
- The course is an introduction to the theory and practice of translation. It presents basic information about the current state of translation studies and helps to orientate in other possibilities of professional employment of students. Student will be able to: - to focus on the basic theory and practice of translation; - in particular, to distinguish the texts in a stylistic way; - preserve the purpose and function of different types of texts; - choose adequate vocabulary, characteristic phrases for different styles.

- 1. Introduction to translation theory. Translation errors. 2. Modern technologies. Stylization. Translation of demanding language phenomena (optional). 3. Official style and its specifics. Translation of offical document. 4. Scientific style and its specifics. Translation of scientific text. 5. Newspaper style and its specifics. Translation of a newspaper text 1. 6. Translation of a newspaper text 2.

- Seminar. Students regularly attend lessons. 2 absences tolerated. Students regularly compiled translations of texts of different styles.
- Assessment methods
- Credit is awarded for work in regular seminars and worked out partial translations as instructed by the teacher. Continuous preparation for seminars based on an interactive syllabus is expected.
