Course objectives
The lecture will deal with some persons from the history of philosophy and of theatre, which somehow connect these two cultural areas. E.g. a philosophical analysis or criticism of theatre, dramatical activity of philosophers or dramatical interpretation of philosophical problems (namely Aristophanes, Plato, Aristotle, Seneca, Voltaire, Diderot).
Syllabus
  • 1. The origin of tragedy from philosophical point of view - Nietzsche.

    2. Socrates as the subject of the old attic comedy.

    3. Plato's relation to the drama and the art.

    4. Aristotle's Poetics.

    5. Seneca and the drama as medium of philosophical thougts.

    6. Voltaire.

    7. Diderot - drama as the educational instrument.
