Course objectives
The course aims to familiarize students with basic translation procedures. Students learn to apply different translation procedures (transposition, modulation, adaptation, implicitation, explicitation, etc.) to translate various types of texts.
Syllabus
  • Students will exercise their ability to use different translation methods by doing translation and proof-reading of various short pragmatic (manuals, warranty conditions for appliances, information leaflets, tourist guide, accompanying texts for the exhibition ...), journalistic and fictional texts. Teaching methods
Exposition and definitions of basic terms and their exemplification on different types of specific text (recordings), proceeding from diverse registers.
Assessment methods
The written part - translation + commentary on the text translation. The oral - Discussion of reading (comparison of French prose text with Czech translation).
