Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquire theoretical knowledge and skills for teaching history at secondary school. Based on the acquired knowledge, to manage the interpretation of secondary-school material and its transfer to the students, to manage specific demands connected with the subject in the area of verifying knowledge, alternative instructional methods, extracurricular activities, etc.
Learning outcomes
The graduate is theoretically prepared for the instruction of history at secondary school with the use of modern didactic methods; has the knowledge of the philosophical and paradigmatic contexts of the teaching of history, controls on the theoretical level the method and forms of instruction.
Syllabus
  • 1. The conception of instruction in individual types of secondary schools, the structure of syllabi.
  • 2. The development of history teaching in the Czech lands.
  • 3. Contemporary trends in the instruction of history here and abroad.
  • 4. The aims of history instruction.
  • 5. The content conception of the instruction of history, the boundaries and continuity with the other subjects taught, the role of the auxiliary sciences of history.
  • 6. Instructional forms and methods, the organization of instructional hours.
