Course objectives
The linguistic and stylistic analysis of the metaphors, the similes and the proverbial expressions inspired by the world of the animals, from the origins of the French literature until the modern age. The explication will first focus on the medieval period, which is particularly important for the history of the relations between man and animals. The animal metaphor will be examined in all literary types. A semantic analysis will be founded on a comparison between the metaphors and the motives of the animal literature, of the iconographic and symbolic representations. Then, the evolution of the phraseology between the 16th and the 19th centuries well be described in a short way. The animal phraseology in the modern French language will be treated in a more detailed way. Finally, the material gathered in the different periods of French will be compared.

  • 1. Zvířata ve středověku obecně : dichotomie mezi divokou přírodou a domestifikovanou faunou ; role zvířat v symbolismu a v literatuře; hlavní filozoficko-teologické postoje 2. Definice pojmů : metafora, přirovnání, obrazné rčení 3. Jednotlivá zvířata v metaforách a obrazných rčeních, na pozadí kulturního kontextu (literatura, symbolika, umění) a na pozadí středověké reality (lovecké příručky, kroniky); analýza motivačních faktorů jazykových vyjádření a jejich sémantické struktury : zejména vlk, liška, medvěd, kanec, jezevec, vydra, kočka. 4. Četnost a kontextové fungování výraziva v jednotlivých literárních žánrech 4. Přehled vývoje lexikalizovaného výraziva od konce středověku po současnost 5. Shrnutí probraného výraziva z morfologického hlediska a z hlediska lexikalizace; dichotomie mluvený jazyk - literární jazyk 6. Zvířecí frazeologie v současné francouzštině; srovnání s předchozími obdobími; srovnání vývoje frazeologie s proměnami v lidském postoji ke zvířatům během historie; role jazykového konservatismu
