- Course objectives
- Mgr. Škarpová: In the seminar chosen texts will be read from old Czech literature and it will be attempted to interpret them, while taking into account different cultural and social contexts and a diffent systém of aesthetic norms which form the basis of these texts. In the voyage across centuries we will mainly attempt at understanding common things and respecting differencies. Another impact should lay on the creation of students own, personal picture of Czech literature of the Middle Ages. The texts will also serve as a material upon the notion of natinal literature, of literature and memory, the importance of author in interpretation; written and oral literature; literary development; continuity and discontinuity, ... Mgr. Palacká: In the course we will deal with reading and interpreting selected works of Old Czech literature. As the motto of the course we understand the thesis of Eduard Petrů, which we paraffrize: Perhaps each of us admires the vault of Gothic Cathedrals, chairoscuro of the old masterspaintings, the simplicity and purity of gergorian chant. We assess the artific value of the old literature, music and art. Itś therefore odd, that this popularity doesnt include old literature. In the course we will try to interpret selected works in a wider artific context. Well concentrate on a characteristic and development of the most frequent genres, some of them well compare to the adequate text of Europien literature.
