Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- analyse selected text regarding its language structure;
- apply their language skills to transformation selected syntactical structures;
- translate and interpret the text properly.
Syllabus
  • 1. Plato: life and work.
  • 2. Platos philosophy.
  • 3. Introduction to reading Plato.
  • 4.-12. Reading and interpretation of selected parts of the text (approximately two pages of the text of Teubner edition are interpreted during every lesson): the appropriate translation of Greek original text to Czech (differences between the word-for-word and the appropriate translation, looking for adequate expressions in Czech for different Greek syntactic constructions), grammatical analysis of the text (morphology, syntax: emphasis on understanding of different syntactical phenomena and looking for their semantically adequate alternative constructions), social and cultural context.
