Course objectives
This lecture is a direct continuation of "Literatura pro děti a mládež I" lecture (option in the second cycle of study). It presents an overview of literature for children and adolescents from the eighteen eighties until present times, the main emphasis being laid on basic genres (fairy tales, stories, poetry etc.) and famous authors.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student should be able:
to understand the development of Czech children’s books and explain it;
to use the basic terminology;
to explain the particularities of literature for children and young people;
to explain the particularities of a young reader.
Syllabus
  • An overview of literature for children and adolescents between the World Wars, its most important genres and representatives. Historical prose, prose concerned with nature, stories, fairy tales. Poetry of this period. Fr. Hrubín.
  • Literature for children and adolescents from 1945 until present times.
  • The basic tendencies in its development and its most important representatives in both poetry and prose.
  • The main focus is on fairy tales (e.g. the so called nonesense fairy tale), stories, proses with a girl as a hero, adventure prose.
  • The main genres of contemporary literature for the young, the changes and new trends in contemporary literature for children and adolescents.
