- Course objectives
- Instructions relating to formal aspects of a B.A. thesis, its minimum extent and the procedure of submitting follow current instructions of Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. A B.A. thesis is focused on a partial aspect from the sphere of linguistics, corresponding with issues dealt with within the B.A. programme Czech Language and Literature. A B.A. thesis is usually based on empirical research (exceptions must be approved by the supervisor). Students are s expected to prove their capability to work critically with scholarly sources, to process concepts and theoretical approaches found in the sources, to find relevant answers to assigned questions, to use secondary sources, to follow the norm relating to how sources are quoted and to process formal aspects of the thesis in accordance with requirements of the particular discipline and with scholarly standards.
- Learning outcomes
- After the completion of the course, the student shall be able:
- to create a hypothesis, an outline, and a time frame for the qualification thesis;
- to research upon and work with relevant literature in the field, according to the thematic focus of their thesis;
- to compile relevant research materials through adequate methods;
- to describe, analyze, interpret, and assess the gathered material;
- to write a qualification thesis within the required length and quality standard in terms of contents, language, and formatting, in accordance with the requirements for bachelor theses. - Syllabus
- The thesis solves a partial problem corresponding with the particular type of study programme. The authors must demonstrate their ability to create an independent scholarly work (work with sources, analysis of the material). The thesis is evaluated by the tutor and reviewer.
- Students of specialized study programmes choose topics of their theses in accordance with their specialization.
