- Course objectives
- In this course students make first acquaintance with translation of literature and its specific problems. The selected texts represent various genres and styles and the specific translation features connected to them. The work in the course includes practical translating as well as research in the fields of translation theory and literary history as well as some bibliographical work. At the end of the course students should be able to understand the specifics of literary translation, to analyze particular works and consequently suggest reasoned translation solutions.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will learn to translate simple literary texts, gain a practical and theoretical overview of literary translation strategies.
- Syllabus
- This course is a block course and the students work on a translation project. In the spring term 2012 selected chapters from the book Iep! by Joke van Leeuwen will be translated.
