- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain genetics quantitative traits, nature of inheritance of quantitative traits, the genetic mechanisms at the population level, and assess their genetic variability. ;
Students will get an overview and practical skills in the estimation of genetic parameters, in particular, heritability, and their practical use in breeding - estimation of breeding value. ;
Interpret these findings and use them as a basis for targeted improvement of livestock. ;
Link knowledge of classical quantitative genetics with molecular genetics approaches in modern breeding techniques - MAS and genomic selection. - Syllabus
- Importance of quantitative genetics
