- Course objectives
- This course is a part of the subject C1020 "Principles of Chemistry". It comprises basic chemical calculations (basic chemical laws, stoichiometry, chemical equations, electron shell, chemical bonding, physical states of compounds, concentration of solutions, termochemistry calculations, chemical equillibrium, electrochemistry, pH) and inorganic nomenclature.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction, nomenclature of inorganic compounds (1st part). 2. Nomenclature of inorganic compounds (2nd part), concentration units (1st part), mass fraction, volume fraction, cross rule, mixing and diluting equations. 3. Concentration units (2nd part), molarity, molality, molar fraction. 4. Fundamental chemical laws, expression of mass in chemistry, stoichiometric formula. 5. Chemical equations and stoichiometric calculations. 6. Atom structure, atomic nucleus, radioactivity, electron shell of atom, periodic law. 7. Basic knowledge on chemical bond, molecular diagram of homo- and heteronuclear biatomic molecules, VSEPR method. 8. State of substances, gases, Gibbs phase rule. 9. Elemental thermodynamics, chemical equilibrium. 10. Ionic equlibria in solutions (pH, hydrolyses of salts). 11. Buffers, solubility product. 12. Electrolysis, redox potential, electrode potential and its dependence on concentration. 13. Credit, first tests
