- Course objectives
- The aim of the subject is introduction to basic principles of scientific work in the field of animal physiology and immunology. Lectures focus on means of data retrieval and processing, planning of experiments, and preparation of documentation for scientific publication, and especially the bachelor and diploma thesis. Other topics are instructions for writing a grant proposal, including the grants supporting the study stay abroad.
- Syllabus
- 1. Literature search (internet, library, consultations). 2. Planning of original publication (working hypothesis, writing framework). 3. Tips for experimental work (experimental design, well-arranged documentation in laboratory diary). 4. Result data processing (statistics, graphs, significance of results). 5. Comparison of own results with literature (scientific discussion). 6. Personal presentation of results with different audience (seminary, conference). 7. Principles of bachelor/diploma/doctoral thesis (structure, style, rules). 8. Original scientific paper (structure, style, rules, basic editorial work, selection of most suitable journal). 9. Grant proposal (Czech grant agencies, abroad grant agencies, support of study stay). 10. Correct scientific Czech/English. 11. Use of computers in aforementioned topics.
