Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand and be able to explain what granitic pegmatites are about.
Syllabus
  • Classification of granitic pegmatites
  • Shape and size of pegmatite bodies, internal structure, pegmatite structures
  • Pegmatite provinces, belts, fields, regions and districts
  • Feldspars and micas
  • Tourmalines, beryl, aluminous silicates and Li alumosilicates
  • Primary phoshates and oxides
  • Experimental studies, PT conditions of pegmatite formation
  • Relations between pegmatites and their fertile granites
  • Relations between pegmatites and their host rocks
  • Classification of granitických pegmatites in the Bohemian Massif, their significance regional for regional geology
  • Pegmatite fields in North America - California and Arizona
  • Pegmatite fields in North America - South Dakota, Virginia
  • Pegmatite fields in North America - Manitoba, Ontario
