- Course objectives
- At the end of this course, students should be able to distinguish types of human infections according to the their source (anthroponoses, zoonoses and sapronoses); to understand epidemic process and natural focality of diseases; to identify some haematophagous arthropods (ixodid ticks, insects) as vectors of microbial diseases; and to study the ecology of etiologic agents of diseases transmissible to humans from animals or abiotic environment.

- Natural focality of diseases.
- Emerging infections.
- Epidemiological surveillance, prevention and control of microbial zoonoses and sapronoses.
- Haematophagous arthropods (ixodid ticks, insects) as vectors of microbial diseases.
- Endotherm vertebrates as hosts or reservoirs of microbial zoonoses.
- A systematic survey of microbial zoonoses and sapronoses.
- Distribution and ecology of zoonotic viruses.
- Distribution and ecology of zoonotic rickettsiae.
- Distribution and ecology of other zoonotic and sapronotic bacteria.
- Distribution and ecology of zoonotic and sapronotic microfungi.

- Teaching methods
- Theoretical lectures, reading, demonstration of some haematophagous invertebrate vectors, discussion during the lectures.
- Assessment methods
- Lecture once a week, written test as examination (60 questions with at least 4 potential answers each, only one answer is correct). The criterion for the examination success is at least 50% score points.
