- Course objectives
- This subject is focused on the field of Web Cartography with primary aim to learn the main theoretical and practical approaches in this field of study.
Therefore, lectures are tightly coupled with practice. Student will be able to create his/her own Web pages in HTML source code with wide variety of included Web maps at the end of the study.
At the same time student will collaborate in more complex team projects from Web cartography. - Syllabus
- Lectures: 1. Internet and Web: history and its influence
- 2. XML basics, Document Type Definition (DTD), styling languages, CSS
- 3. Client applications, Web browsers, standardization of the Web
- 4. Web formats, DNS
- 5. Map client applications (SVG, JavaScript,...)
- 6. Map server applications (GeoServer, GeoMedia WebMap, ArcGIS server,...)
- 7. Web services - main principles, OGC standardization
- 8. Geography Markup Language, OGC WMS, WFS, WCS, FE, WCTS, WPS, CSW
- 9. Cartographic visualization in OGC Web services (SLD, SE)
- 10. Sensor networks, OGC Sensor Web Enablement
- 11. Users and usage of maps on the Web
- 12. Web map design
