Course is offered to the students of bachelor, master and doctoral studies, who want to practise in the practical description a recognition of ore-forming minerals and rocks.

Course objectives
Objective of the course is to teach students how to describe and recognize minerals, rocks and structures typical for different genetic types of mineral deposits and familiarize them with using of analytical techniques and working methods used in exploration of mineral deposits.
Syllabus
  • 1) Introduction, using of analytical techniques and determination tools, destciption of ore textures
  • 2) Pegmatite deposits
  • 3) Greisen deposits
  • 4) Stratiform, volcanosedimentary, VMS, lahn-dill deposits
  • 5) Skarn and metasomatic deposits
  • 6) Hydrothermal deposits
  • 7) Deposits of weathering and supergenne processes
  • 8) Ultrabasic rocks deposits
  • 9) Summary and selection of all deposits

Teaching methods
Macroscopic study and description of relevant samples, training with analytical techniques (XRF, kappameter) and determination tools (mineralogical magnifer, UV lamp, HCl).
Assessment methods
Credit will be given for active participation (min. 80%) and proving knowledge of the issue by submitting correctly completed worksheets from individual lessons.
